My Kids are Still Uplugged

My kids unplugged last Tuesday. (2/21/12)
They are still unplugged! They have officially made it one whole week. I am amazed.
It has been so easy – for me at least! Instead of me constantly having to tell them to get off the computer etc, it is their choice! I do not have to be the nagging mom that is no fun. They have asked a few times if they could get on. I said “Sure!”. But then they don’t.
Kid2 said to me last night that this was gonna last a while. She said it was “cuz we don’t want each other to get the money.” So it is no longer about earning the money for her, it appears to be about making sure her Bro & sis don’t get it. Ha!
Gotta love sibling rivalry!
Ativan as Needed for Anxiety

I just called in to request a refill for my Ativan.
It’s a no-refill prescription so I have to call every time. They give me 30 pills. The directions on the bottle say “Take one tablet by mouth every six hours as needed for anxiety.” Wow. If I followed those instruction I would run out in a little over a week!
Usually a prescription lasts me about a month. At first they did NOT last a whole month. I remember a time when I was ever so careful with those and worried about how many I was taking – cuz they needed to last long enough – until the doctor would approve another prescription. These little pills are/were my sanity savers!
Guess what? The last time I had this refilled was 11/29/11. Woo hoo! That means I’ve had these 30 pills for 87 days!! Yep, I counted. I am amazed and doing a happy dance!
It gets better. There are still 6 little pills left in the bottle! So in 87 days I have only used 24 ativan pills? Amazing!
I was taking them more often than I was happy about around Christmas time with all the parties and band concerts & everything. More recently I have been relying on them to get through the basketball games. But things have slowed down & I’ve been doing pretty good. I even managed Kid3′s birthday party without ativan!
Happy Happy Dance!
He’s so negative!

Hubby is in the shower right now.
He is in there swearing “Son of a bitch!” “Come on!” “Jesus Christ!”
Like what on earth would make a person yell and swear when they are in the shower? Ummm… maybe he ran out of shampoo? Nope just put new bottles of shampoo & conditioner in there. He get scalded cuz someone ran some cold water somewhere? Nope, kids are in bed and I am here. He doesn’t shave in the shower so he couldn’t have cut himself.
I have no idea.
He’s so negative! Why the heck does he have to be so negative and angry about everything?!?!
I want to live in a peaceful home.
My Kids are Unplugged

I may have reached a new LOW… Or I’m brilliant.
I’m not sure which yet!
My kids have been plugged in like crazy lately. “Plugged in” means they are on the computer or Ipad or Ipod or whatever technological device they can find. (I am constantly telling them to “Unplug”!)
They are all about Animal Jam now and they just had a 4 day weekend. They sat for HOURS playing that game. I couldn’t stand it anymore!
So…
I offered a $20 bill to whoever stays off the computer & ipad & ipod the longest.
Then the idea kind evolved.
Rules:
- The money isn’t in the pot until 3 days have passed.
- After that, the pot increases $1/day.
Today is Day 3. They all keep trying to get the others to cave and tempt them by talking about their friends who are online etc. It’s hilarious! And it has been so peaceful here! Much less whining. For real. Last night Kid1 & Kid3 played ‘Go Fish’ together – the actual card game! And remember books? And they got my old Merlin down from the game shelf in the basement. You remember Merlin – I know you do!

I will admit that they got bored pretty quickly with Merlin. But it lead to a fun conversation about the ‘good old days’!
Yay!
Oh – wondering why I think it might be a new LOW ?? Cuz I am actually PAYING my kids to not to play on the computer! Sounds so sad when I think of it that way!
So I won’t – I will just enjoy this and maybe even get to play a board game or two.
Birthday Party Sleepover without Drama!

We had a great 4 day weekend with the kids off school Friday and Monday.
-
Kid1 turned 14 last weekend so we had a sleepover birthday party on Thursday night. She has not had a birthday party with friends for the last 2 years because she had a horrible case of teenage attitude and rebellion. Yes, that is a good way to describe it. She could never quite be respectful long enough to even get the invitations out before hubby or I had to lecture that the party was a privilege, not a right and blah blah blah. Inevitably she would not ‘get it’ and the party would be cancelled before it was even planned. I’m telling you, this child is tough. I was more upset that I had to cancel my daughter’s birthday party than she was.
Knock on wood, but we may be working our way through that wonderful phase. Of course she still has that wonderful teenage attitude going on but seems to have learned a little self-control. She has finally figured out that it is not in her best interest to yell every little thought that pops into her head at us. Yay. lol
Since she hasn’t had a party (with friends) the last 2 years, we made a big deal out of this one! She invited 8 friends, I rented a church fellowship hall and convinced my best friend to stay too. lol Our little boys stayed too and they had a blast annoying the teenagers :) Kid2 & her BFF came for a while but then went to BFF’s house for the night. It was a lot of fun. Kid1 was terrified I would plan games that were “babyish”. Ha. I googled and googled and found some neat things to do and they all had a blast. The pictures were on facebook before we even got home the next day. In their world, we can definitely call that a success!
The main game we played was called Frito Head. They put on plastic rain ponchos, sprayed shaving cream on their partners head, and tossed fritos to see how many they could get to stick on their head. Wild, messy, and so much fun.
It was fun! Friday was so lazy for us cuz we were too tired to do anything except veg out and watch TV and eat leftover cake.
Oh – the cake. Ha! Kid1 is all about the zebra print – just like every other teenage girl right now. I ordered a zebra print cake with purple accents. In my mind, this meant a black and white striped caked with the “Happy Birthday” etc written in purple and maybe some other kind of purple decorations on it. Something definitely got lost in translation. Kinda funny, but just something else to laugh about. The term “purple zebra” was a worn out phrase by morning. (I removed her name from the cake pic before posting it here.) The cake had a weird purple zebra thing going on! – but other than the bright purple zebra-ness of it, it was really plain. Strange. I will definitely be more specific next time I order a cake! It was still very yummy though so no complaints there!

Did you see this yet?
It’s a cautionary tale.

I’m sorry … but I LOVE it!
I will also admit that I do wonder if he is just a little bit psycho.
I think any parent that has tried again and again to get through to their kid with no results would get this though. It’s like banging your head against the wall. I’ll bet this worked :)
I don’t think he needed to broadcast it to the world. But he sure made his point!
I read some of his facebook page which is public, and it really seems like he is an OK guy.
My Best Valentine’s Day Ever: Sixth Grade

Valentine’s Day
It’s a good day because it gets people in relationships to express their love to each other.
It’s an icky day cuz it is just a day of wishes, expectations, and disappointment.
I bought hubby some Valentine’s Day candy. Hubby brought me some Valentine’s Day candy. That was wonderful. Funny how that should have been enough. What more did I want? I want him to look me in the eyes and sincerely say ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ or ‘I love you” or something. Yea, Yea I know. I should just shut up and be happy. And it was an improvement over Valentine’s Day last year.
I’m a romantic at heart. Hubby is not. AT ALL. I know this. I have been married to this man for 17 years… I know this! It still makes me a little sad.
And facebook does not help! Everyone who had a great Vday feels the need to brag about it and post pics, and even engagement rings. Yay them.
My BFFs hubby works out of town. He left for the week on Monday morning. Before he left, she gave him a Vday gift. I forget what it was – some kind of electronic thing. He said to her that he doesn’t get into Vday and he doesn’t celebrate it and it’s stupid. Now he’s not a total jerk so he probably meant something not so horrible – like maybe people should show their love all year round, not just one day a year. I have no idea – I’m just trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. Made BFF feel like crap though. Yes, she knows this about him. It is still hard to be reminded of these things every year.
Every girl wants a little romance!
My best Valentine’s Day Ever:
Sixth grade. Kevin – my first boyfriend. We were neighbors and in the same class at school. We were both patrols on the bus and sat in the back 2 seats – across the isle from each other. (Remember patrols?!?) On Valentine’s day he gave me a heart necklace. He was SO SWEET! It was unexpected. It was perfect. Best Valentine’s day I’ve ever had and I never even kissed the boy! lol
Maybe that day is the root of all my Vday disappointments! He set the bar too high – no guy could ever compete with that! :)
Now that I think about that… I have not received jewelry for Valentine’s Day since then! I’ve had boyfriends give me stuffed animals, flowers, and candy. (I’m sorry but somebody please tell the guys to skip the stuffed animals unless you’re still in grade school!)
Hubby has given me candy and occasionally flowers over the years but he still makes sure to let me know that he thinks it’s all a big pain. Sigh.
I love my man. Valentine’s Day? Not so much.
Anxiety: See the pattern?

See the pattern?
I post on here about some situation that’s coming up that I’m freaking out about…
Then I come back and say “hey, it wasn’t bad at all!”
Great BUT why don’t I just finally learn that lesson for real and be done with it?
What lesson?
That life isn’t evil and determined to swallow me up.
That I will not pass out from standing in a line.
That …..
I wish it were that easy :(
Another year wiser?

I turned 41 this weekend. I can tell you it was SO much better than last year! (See I don’t like turning 40 )
Why was it better?
Well, I didn’t cry once. Ha! And hubby bought me a gift weeks ago! The kids wrapped it for him this morning. Hubby is notorious for forgetting to buy / hating to be bothered with gifts. This becomes a problem because one of my main love languages is gifts. So even though I try really hard, this often leads to hurt feelings.
Those 2 reason right there are plenty.
Oh – My mom called me too. That was nice. She usually just sends a card. This year she did both. Nice :) My dad didn’t call but he probably will this week – he always forgets and calls a few days later. lol That’s ok though. I talk to him pretty regularly so it’s not a big deal. We just hung out at home today and worked on the kid’s valentines for their school parties. Fun, relaxing.
Kid2 made a birthday cake. I told hubby that I was going to order pizza cuz I didn’t want to cook. (hint, hint….) So we ordered pizza, he went to pick it up and also brought home some steaks from the store and STRAWBERRIES. Yum. Strawberries may be my all-time favorite food. He knows that and that is why it is so awesome :) And he cooked the steaks and kids made a salad.
Did I ever tell you that Kid1 and I have the same birthday?? Now that she is a little older (14!!) she is starting to appreciate it a little bit I think. I have always been careful not to take away from her moment. Our tradition is that we usually go to Applebees, just the 2 of us, and then we go shop the winter clearance sales at the mall. It’s lot of fun! We haven’t gone yet. Might happen a bit later this year.
She is having a slumber party next weekend. And I just bought her way too expensive sneakers for her birthday. Between that gift and the party expenses, we may have to wait a little before we can go on a shopping spree!
Kid1 and I are still walking and exercising. She is finally not hating me for it. Most days :) She always complains that her feet hurt – or her shoes hurt – or her ankles hurt – or…. Before I thought she was just complaining because she was mad at me for making her exercise. But she has had a better attitude lately and still complains of foot pain. So we went to a fancy pants shoe store where they have a whole “digital foot analysis” shoe fitting system. I have to say it was very cool! We walked out of there with a $120 pair of sneakers and a smile on her face. lol I didn’t expect to spend that much but if it gets rid of her pain then it is worth it. And I think her feet are done growing so these shoes should fit a LONG time! lol
Perhaps the correct saying is “Another year older, and deeper in debt.”
I don’t know where that quote comes from but it seem fitting!
G’night.
